About Jason

I’m Jason Rosenburg, a Southern literary fiction writer. I write about what it’s like to grow up and live in a culture that desperately wants to change you. I’m drawn to stories about queer identity, faith, family, and belonging.

I grew up in Red Bay, Alabama, and much of my work revolves around the rural South. I write about people who are caught between what they were taught and what they want, and the brave ones who finally reach for something honest.

My fiction often deals with love, silence, shame, and belonging. I’m invested in the quiet moments before a life changes. A conversation in a kitchen. A church service that alienates someone. An old gravel road. A boy realizing he wants something he does not yet have the language for.

I recently completed my English and Creative Writing degree at Southern New Hampshire University, and I’m continuing to grow as a fiction writer and editor. My long-term goal is to write novels and short stories that help people feel seen, especially those who grew up feeling out of place in the places that raised them. I’m also planning to pursue an MFA in Creative Writing and English.

I split my time between Tijuana, Mexico, and Alabama, usually with coffee nearby and a story turning over in my head.

What I Write About

  • Southern life and memory
  • Queer identity and belonging
  • Faith, family, and silence
  • Coming of age and coming into truth
  • Love, grief, shame, and personal growth
  • The complicated meaning of home

A note on editing: Alongside my own writing, I help other writers strengthen their work through developmental editing and manuscript feedback. I care about the emotional center of a story. I want to know what the piece is trying to become, then help the writer move closer to that.
