I’ve been thinking about something to share here on my blog. I’ve had a few ideas, but nothing I’ve really fleshed out. So, I thought I’d share a little about my writing by answering a few questions.
How do I get inspired to writer?
For me inspiration can come from a few different places. It can come from reading scripture. It can come from songs. Songs really move me to write. When you think about it, a song is a story set to music. Those stories inspire me to write. Sometimes, I use the character in the song to create a story. What I really like to do is take a prompt and make a story. I’ll talk more about that later!
What are you currently working on?
Since most of you know I just finished Bryan’s Journey. I’m going to keep my next book a secret for now. It will be different than the first two. If I can find a way to do it, I may turn it into a triology. In the meantime, I’ll be working on some flash fiction and maybe a little bit of poetry.
What is the best thing about being a writer?
The best thing about being a writer is getting to do what I love!
What’s the best advice for aspiring writers?
Write. Don’t worry about what it sounds like. Don’t be a stickler on the mechanics. Just sit down and write. The inner editor will starve you of creativity and stop the flow. Shut him/her up! Do what you love to do and work on fixing it later.
Where did you get the idea for you most recent book?
The idea for Bryan’s Journey just came to me. I was sitting in church and BAM. I wrote down a quick description and took it from there later. It’s like there are millions of stories floating around in the air around you. You have to be willing to pull one out of the air and write it down.
Okay, I told you I’d talk more about writing prompts later. It’s later. I didn’t write seriously for a LONG time. I had put it aside. Many times I found myself looking at a blank screen or a blank sheet of paper. I wanted to write but didn’t know how to start. I had a friend who pushed me to get back into writing seriously. He gave me a writing prompt and asked for at least 500 words. I LOVED it! I was having him give me prompts every time I had the chance. If you want to write and don’t know how to start or what to do. I suggest you find some writing prompts, or you could ask someone else to give them to you.
That’s what I’m going to do now. Down below in the little facebook box, leave me a word or two, or maybe a phrase. I’ll use it in a story. This will kind of give you an idea of what I’m talking about. It’ll also get my creative juices flowing. Come on…leave me some prompts.
