Live Life Unfiltered

In today’s world we have Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.  All of these can be very useful tools.  Under their usefulness though there is a problem.  These mediums that we use for our social interactions allow for us to portray our life in any way we want.  Just scroll through Instagram and you’ll see almost every photo has a filter on it.  Why? They make your picture look better. They can hide flaws in your skin.  Now, I’m not saying it’s wrong and I’m not judging, but if we can’t let people see who we really are isn’t that a problem?  Shouldn’t we go without the filters now and then?

Why?

Why do people feel the need to change the way things look? They want to come off as perfect, with their perfect pictures, their perfect meals, and their perfect kids.  Studies have shown that people actually get depressed looking at social media because of this.  They see others lives as being perfect while theirs is lacking.  When in all truthfulness, the person behind the filter is struggling with life too.

What does all of this get us?  People are searching for something real because they recognize that there is so much counterfeit.  I think it makes it harder for people to believe in anything.  When you see so much fake, how do you know what’s real?  God didn’t design life to be like this.  He created  so many wonderful things around us to experience and enjoy. So go enjoy nature.  Enjoy a good meal.  Enjoy friends and family without the hinderance of a phone.  Put it away completely.  It’s time to unplug and live life unfiltered.

It’s time to come back to reality.  I think we can agree that phones, filters and social media aren’t bad, but they, like everything else should be used in moderation.  Let’s start the new year off right and pledge to enjoy real life a little more.
