Today I’m bringing you another interview! This time we have Christian hip-hop artist Raely Elle with Never Fade Records. As always I’ll have her links listed below so make sure to check out her music and website. It’s good to see people working in all areas of music and in different forms of ministry so we can reach the world for the Jesus.
Raely, from your website I see that you have been singing for a while. When did your interest in singing begin?
I’ve been singing since I was just a little one. My interest in singing first began watching The Little Mermaid and Pocahontas. I was intrigued by their free spirits and the beauty a simple melody could bring.
I see that you started as a lounge singer when you were 14. Tell us about that.
I did. I had a gig every weekend for dinner and business parties. I dressed in sparkling gowns and long silk gloves. I sang older covers from Marylyn Monroe, Aretha Franklin, and some newer ballads. It was all very soulful and fun for me. It was like playing dress up every weekend.
How did you start doing music for the Lord? What brought that about?
I always wanted to put out a positive message with my music, but it took some time to finally commit and do it for the Lord. I was about 19, and decided to fully commit my life to Him in a real way, rather than the old luke warm path I was on. That changed my heart and it showed naturally in my music.
How does your faith influence your music?
It is my main inspiration. It shows me how to sing songs that can encourage, bring hope and spread peace in a real way.
Do you write your own material?
I do.
Tell us about your latest project.
There are actually a few projects being worked on at the moment, but I will say that my latest album has been a huge growth spurt for me as an artist because I was able to express myself in a whole new light.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I try to dwell in the present. Things often never go as planned, so I try to be careful not to get my heart too set on where I should be years from now. I will say, I hope to have the ability to be completely at peace with wherever God chooses to place me. (That’s something I’m still working on in this present moment.)
Hopefully more wisdom and knowledge by then too! 🙂
What do you want people who listen to your music to come away with?
To know the beauty of having a divine relationship with Jesus. To know that anything is possible with God, and to feel a healing, empowerment and a new found hope. I can only pray to create that type of impact!
Are there any artists who have influenced your music?
I get inspired by Bob Marley, Aretha Franklin, Toni Braxton, Gyptian, Lauryn Hill, Aaliyah, Nico and Vinz, Erykah Badu and too many others to name them all.
Tell us something about you that not many people know.
I’ve been a makeup artist for a living for years when I’m not singing.
