If you’re like me, you’re a hoarder. I like to keep all kinds of things. I mostly keep them because of a memory that may be associated with the object. I think for the most part a lot of us can identify with that. While you may not hoard them, you understand that some things have sentimental value.
Now, I’m going to switch gears for a minute. You probably know that when you travel it’s much easier to do when you pack lightly. Do you see where I’m going?
We fill our suitcases up with all kinds of hurts, pains, losses and regrets. We can’t seem to let them go. So what does it do? It weighs us down. Traveling this road is rough so why in the world do you want to make it rougher by carrying things you were never meant to carry?
Open up your suitcase and start unpacking. Take out all the things that are weighing you down. All the things that are keeping you from drawing closer to God. Take out those things that you’ve held onto for so long that are causing you to harbor bad feelings toward others. God wants you to be free to run. He doesn’t want you weighed down so much that you can barely move.
Stop hoarding the past. Allow the Holy Spirit to do a work in you. He will set you free, but you have to be willing to let go. God will never force you to do anything. If you’re willing to lighten the load, he’s willing to take the junk.
There is one true way to be miserable and that’s sitting back and looking at all your past mistakes and regrets. You weren’t meant to live like that. Give it all to God and see how much lighter the load gets. Feel the joy that comes when you realize you’re free!
