Have you ever forgotten to water your plants? I do it all the time. I don’t notice until they start to droop. Then I usually ask one of my daughters to give them some water. Within no time they perk right up. The same goes for my body. If I don’t get enough water to drink I can tell. Once I start to drink more, my body responds and I feel better.
The same is true for our spiritual self. We tend to go around sipping on things that leave us wanting more. When Jesus said that if we drink from his water will never thirst again. That’s found in John chapter 4. However, there is another place where it talks about water in the bible. I love this verse:
Ezekiel 47:9 And it shall be that every living thing that moves, wherever the rivers go, will live. There will be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters go there; for they will be healed, and everything will live wherever the river goes.
Wherever the river goes, there is life. It heals and it brings life. Are you dying from thirst because you’ve filled up on things that this world gives? Jesus wants to give you life. Drink deep from his waters and you’ll never thirst again. Nothing in this world will ever satisfy you. You can’t settle for a cheap imitation and expect to make it through a long hot battle.
Once you have a taste of the love of God, you won’t want anything else. I promise you it’s worth it. Come alive. Wake up. You’ve slept long enough. It’s time to come alive and be a part of the army that God is raising up. Drink deep. The battles you face may be long and hard, but you have something that will sustain you. Living water.
