Opportunities sometimes come in unexpected ways. I’m currently reading, Grave Robber by Mark Batterson and it has some amazing stories in it. There are divine appointments around us every day. We have to be tuned into the Holy Spirit and on the lookout for them. This book is a MUST read for Christians.
So many times we go through our day to day life zoned out. We do the same things over and over and get so used to it that we could do it with our eyes closed. We don’t think twice about the people crossing our path. I truly believe there are no coincidences and that God is in complete control. So when people come into our lives, there is a reason. If we are tuned into the Holy Spirit we may find there are opportunities there. People all around us have needs, we can be God’s hand extended to those people. We have to take ourselves off of autopilot and start seeking God.
There are doors all around us just waiting to be opened. Will you notice them? If you do notice them will you be willing to walk through them? I hope you’re getting this. God has divine opportunities for you! Yes YOU! It doesn’t matter if you think you’re not spiritual enough, or if you think you don’t matter. Each one of us is meant to live our lives on the lookout. I challenge you to pray every day for God to open your eyes to the opportunities around you. You’ll begin to see them. People are hurting and need encouragement and someone to pray for them. They may just need to hear that God loves them or just to be noticed. What if your kindness stops someone from killing themselves? What if your listening to the Holy Spirit makes you available to someone in need?
A quick story from Mark Batterson’s book Grave Robber. I may not get this all exactly right, but the story is true. I can’t remember if its a pastor or a pastor’s wife, either way it was a woman! She was from a church in Birmingham that worked with prostitutes and helped them. One morning as she was leaving for the center their church had, she was stopped as she was going out the door and thought that she needed to bring wooly socks. It was so odd to her that she thought, it just might be God, so she went and got some wooly socks. When she got to the center, there was a prostitute passed out on the steps. She took her inside and called 911. She asked her if she could have one thing what would it be, and the woman said wooly socks!
Now you tell me that’s a coincidence! God has ways of showing his love for people. Be that way. Be listening and open to do even the strangest of things. You never know when God’s going to use you.
Look for doors of opportunity. Pray for them. Seek them out and watch God move in you and through you.
